Anne of Avonlea is a novel by the Canadian writer Lucy Maud Montgomery, published for the first time in 1909. It is the second book in the series of Anne of Green Gables and tells the next two years of the life of Anne Shirley. The "wonderful era" of youth, during which Anne worked as a teacher at the Avonlea school.

Plot

The story takes precisely the point that had left the novel Anne of Green Gables. The summer passes and Anne begin her first year as a teacher at the Avonlea school. As a teacher, she uses innovative methods, based not on corporal punishment but dialogue with students.

Despite trying to be neutral and having no preferences among her students, Anne is very impressed by little Paul Irving. The child is brilliant and has a great imagination.

Meanwhile, Davy and Dora arrive at Green Gables, two eight-year-old twins who have been orphaned. And Marilla adopts them. Although Anne knows how to deal with children, Davy's personality will test her patience.
