Jane Eyre, cataloged as an autobiographical novel, was published for the first time in 1847 under the pseudonym of Currer Bell. It is the first novel published by the British author Charlotte BrontëBrontë. And it is currently considered a classic of English literature.

The novel tells the story of Jane's life. After a difficult childhood, she takes a job as a governess and falls in love with her employer. Jane Eyre is the first feminist novel. And it has several adaptations to cinematographic versions.

Plot

Jane's childhood

The first chapters deal with Jane's difficult childhood once she is an orphan. Her wealthy uncle, Mr. Reed in Gateshead, had promised to take care of her after her parents died. But when he dies, her aunt, Mrs. Reed, and three children treat Jane evil and constantly humiliate her. Although, Jane is a simple, calm, and intelligent girl with a passionate soul. When Jane rebels against her family's injustice, Mrs. Reed sends her to a charity school in Lowood.
