The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is the most successful novel by Mark Twain, and American Literature considered the book as one of the top works. It was published in 1884 in Great Britain and Canada, and the United States issued the novel in 1885.

The book provides a detailed description of people and places along the Mississippi River. It also offers a profound vision of the rooted behaviors of people at that time, especially the practices related to slavery and racism.

Some critics consider the book racist, and the term "nigger" the author uses to call Jim is misinterpreted. Thus, the edition published by NewSouth in 2011 replaced the word "nigger" with the word "slave" in the text.

Some American studies consider the novel as one of the classic incarnations of the American dream. The story presents the search for happiness, as proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence of the United States.

The story's protagonist, Huckleberry Finn, is Tom Sawyer's best friend. Tom is the protagonist of another work by the same author, known as "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer."

St. Petersburg's Life

The novel begins on the coasts of the Mississippi River in the fictional city of St. Petersburg. Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, called "Huck," get a considerable sum of money through their previous adventures. First, Huck was under the care of Mrs. Douglas, who tried to educate and civilize him. But Huck did not like this lifestyle very much.
