The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a novel by American writer Mark Twain. The book was published in 1876.

The book is one of the classics of juvenile literature, although it also attracts many adults. The adventures of Tom Sawyer is a typical story of a young rogue. It takes place in a fictional city called St. Petersburg, along the Mississippi River. The time is in the mid-nineteenth century.

Plot

The orphaned boy Tom lives with his aunt Polly and his half-brother Sid. Sid is a good boy, but Tom likes to skip school, beat himself and play with his best friend, Huckleberry Finn. When Tom arrives home with a torn shirt after a street fight, his aunt forces him to paint the fence as punishment. Tom cleverly convinces other children to do his job in exchange for tiny treasures.
