Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea is a novel by French writer Jules Verne published in 1870. Verne anticipates in this book the technical development of the submarine. Although the submarines existed even before the book's publication, these did not have a technological development.
Plot
The Frigate Abraham Lincoln
The novel seems like a report of the French professor Pierre Aronnax. He was the author of "The secrets of the depths of the sea." In 1866 and 1867, amazing wrecks happened in all the oceans. The press speculated that a sea monster was responsible for the boat's overturning, and Aronnax suspects a gigantic narwhal was the cause. Due to his experience as a marine scientist, the US government asked him in 1867 to join an expedition to clarify the events. So Aronnax starts the trip with his servant Conseil aboard the American frigate Abraham Lincoln.
