Anne of Green Gables is a children's book by the Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery. The first edition of the book appeared in 1908.

Lucy Maud Montgomery writes the story inspired by an article in the newspaper, which counted the case of a couple who received an orphan girl instead of the requested child. Despite that, they stayed with the girl, still living with them. But, L.M. Montgomery also used the memories of her childhood in the rural area of Prince Edward. Its location is on the Island in Canada at the end of the 19th century.

Plot

Anne Shirley is a freckled, red-haired orphan sent by accident to the Green Gables farm. On the farm live the two brothers, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. And its location is in the fictional town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island. The name of the book comes from the green tiles of the house.
