Herbert George Wells, generally known as H. G. Wells, was an English writer. He could write in many genres, such as novels, stories, biographies, and works of a social and ironic style. He is known as the "father of science fiction," along with authors such as Jules Verne and Hugo Gernsback.

Novels like Kipps and The History of Mr. Polly led some people to consider Wells as a worthy successor to Charles Dickens.
